My Top Three Acts

We have many different types of friends. New, old, ones that make us feel at home, the bad influences, etc. Actually, when you think about it, music is a lot like that too.  You have the songs that bring you back to the first time you snuck out of the house. (Not that I ever did that, mom…) Or the jams that takes you back to your favorite vacation. No matter what the occasion, luckily all will be able to time travel this weekend at Sunfest.

You have a little rock, rap and everything in between. But as we look at the truly insane lineup, I saw three that stuck out to me. Meet them, shall we?

Robin Thicke

The ironic thing about Mr. Thicke is not that when you take off the Robin in his name it kind of sounds a little dirty, but that he has been putting out great music since way before Pharrell and “Blurred Lines” came along. If you have never taken a beau under the stars and listened to “Lost Without You” or “Love After War,” I suggest you do. Maybe even tonight by the water! He makes music to make to get a little romantic or the perfect song to say, “Crap. I messed up. Sorry!” And not many people have had the chance to see the new single (and maybe ready to mingle?) Robin, so this should be interesting.

Jillette Johnson

There are a few women you should make sure to see this weekend. The goddess that is Ellie Goulding, of course. But don’t miss the likes of Conway, Macy Kate and especially, Jillette Johnson. We came across her a little less than a year ago when a friend shared her video “Cameron” on a Facebook wall. It’s about a young boy who relates more as a girl and feels like an alien. Then there is “Pauvre Coeur” that surrounds domestic violent. Her music is a little dark, but relatable. And her voice? Unforgettable. We love a woman who isn’t afraid to touch a touchy subject. What will she be like live? Well, we will just have to wait a few days and see.

Kid Rock

Kid Rock, Kid Rock, Kid Rock. Yes, he’s a little dirty, and you question if you would ever bring him home. But there is no doubt you have rocked out to a Kid Rock song or two.  I can definitely remember the first time I heard the words, “My name is Kidddddd…. Kid Rock” thanks to “Bawitdaba.” He has stayed on the music scene most recently with his album, “Rebel Soul” and a few tours here and there. But why should you love him if you’re not a fan? Well, because of his Best Night Ever Summer tour of 2013. Tickets were just $20 and included parking free of charge, free food from Jimmy John’s, free coffee, $4 beer and all merchandise all under $20. He does what he loves and does it for the people that love him.
