New Music Night

Opening Night will feature Weezer -- along with our popular New Music

On Opening night, Wednesday night, April 28 is we feature some of the hottest up-and-coming bands. This mini-music festival within the festival features acts who recently played Texas’s famed SXSW. In it’s third year this night is an opportunity for fans to discover new music and see acts they may not have had a chance to see live. The eclectic night of music features:
We Are Scientists, Crash Kings, Constellations, These United States, Locksley and Gringo Star

We Are Scientists formed in 2000 and has three albums. This Indie-pop-rock group has played Late Night with David Letterman multiple times.  They most recently toured with Kings of Leon in 2008, and currently have a series on MTV UK.  A new single "Rules Don't Stop" will be released on April 5, 2010.

Crash Kings'
first single "Mountain Man" reached Billboard Music Charts.  Crash Kings toured with Chris Cornell, Stone Temple Pilots and David Cook, among others.  They have been called "the love child of The Cold War Kids and The White Stripes."

Constellations
formed in Atlanta in 2006. This hip-hop/hybrid band spent some time earlier this year opening for Snoop Dogg. Their first album was produced by Ben Williams (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective) and features Cee-Lo and Asher Roth.

These United States formed in 2006 and came onto the indie-music scene with the debut album "A Picture of the Three of Us at the Gate to the Garden of Eden,", released in early 2008. Only six months after the band issued a second album "Crimes" and now, only one year later, comes the third album.  This rock /alt-country group recognize Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty as influencers in their sound.

Locksley hails from Madison, Wisconsin and is made up of brothers Jesse and Jordan Laz and longtime friends Kai Kennedy and Sam Bair. They released their first album, "Don''t Make Me Wait" in 2007, on their own Feature Records label.  After touring nationwide, including opening for Kinks legend Ray Davies, as well as performances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and "Late Night With Conan O'Brien," they re-released their album to correspond with an MTV feature on the group.  The group's up-tempo, sing-a-long friendly songs and penchant for melody has drawn comparisons to everyone from the Beatles and Kinks to the Cure and the Strokes.  In March 2010, they released their sophomore album "Be in Love" kicked off with the single, "Darling It's True."

Gringo Starr's sound falls somewhere between The Animals and The Kinks.  Soft-spoken at times, on stage Gringo Star explodes.  The members of the band never hang on to the same instruments for too long, each member of the group sprints and hurdles from station to station, swapping out guitar for bass, drums for voice, keyboard for accordion, kazoo for tambourine.
