Girl Talk Returns to SunFest

One week from today, Girl Talk will make a triumphant return to our SunFest stage. Gregg Gillis, the confetti-streaming mashup king, performed my first year blogging for SunFest, back in 2012.

I’ve been listening to Girl Talk since his 2006 album Night Ripper. His All Day release remains one of my very favorite finds. I still stream it when running along Lady Bird Trail or when a house party needs a little extra energy.

I’ve had the honor of seeing Gillis grace stages all over this country, from West Palm Beach to Stubb’s during SXSW to Coachella. His live performances can never be missed. Girl Talk is one of the few artists that invites his sweaty, smiling fans to join him on stage. As dozens and dozens of fans jump and shimmy to his music, Gillis stays hunched over his computer and equipment, pausing only to peel away layers of clothes.

It’s simple: If you want to experience pure joy, take yourself to a Girl Talk show.

Gillis’ last big release was his Broken Ankles EP in 2014, but yesterday he made headlines for a new track with Flatbush Zombies’ Erick the Architect. “Trouble in Paradise” is a short gem that samples Julian Casablancas+The Voidz’s “Take Me in Your Army.”

Do not miss Girl Talk’s brilliant set on Thursday, May 3.
