JetBlue Stage Soars

Could yesterday have been any more perfect?

Welcoming fans into SunFest was a bit of precious cloud cover and a beautiful warm breeze. I was mesmerized by our gorgeous view along the Intracoastal— I forget how much I miss the sea! Whether you are a Florida native, or having a love affair with West Palm Beach, we can all agree yesterday was something special.

Speaking of special, there were two standout performances on SunFest’s southern stage. Southern California’s talented trio Sir Sly was the perfect indie rock opener for Ohio’s Girl Talk. I’ve been a fan of Landon Jacobs, Jason Suwito, and Hayden Coplen for quite some time, and it was a damn treat to see them live for the first time.

With funky, colorful anime playing behind them, the band performed new hits off their album Don’t You Worry, Honey, including “Alter” and “High.” They also dropped a new gem, “Pressure,” which they recently played at Coachella.

SunFest has a habit of featuring artists on the brink of blinding fame, and all of my money is on Sir Sly for the near future. Keep your ears (and eyes) on this band.

Headlining the JetBlue Stage was Girl Talk. For an intimate crowd of party animals, Gregg Gillis threw the best seaside dance party. The JetBlue stage was covered with bouncing, smiling fans, as Girl Talk hunched over his laptop, mashing up our favorite artists across decades. I was thrilled to see Girl Talk is still touring with his sports-themed stage, featuring larger than life sneakers, hands, and a basketball DJ roost.

Fans (on stage and off) were treated to candy color strobe lights, toilet paper streamers, confetti blasts, and steam bursts. Gregg’s relentless mix of hits left us all sweaty and smiling, a perfect dance-off for the first day of SunFest.
