Sunday Preview: On Your Radar

For Sunday’s acts: one met in a bar, one met in a classroom, and you already met the last one…on your radio.

Some of today’s performances are still considered “unknown,” but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be on your radar.

Here are three you should look out for:

Somekindawonderful

With a catchy alternative single peaking at No. 18 on the U.S. alternative charts, a band name that just makes you feel happy and a loyal fan base who call themselves The Butterly Militia,  Somekindawonderful has a pretty good formula going for them.

It’s the classic meet-cute: people go to a bar, people meet each other, people form a band, band gets signed. Their 2013 self-titled album helped the Ohio-based five-piece gain recognition and now it’s your turn to see them.

Milky Chance

Milky Chance PhotoSo, Somekindawonderful met at a bar. Well, Milky Chance met in the 11th grade. Not too shabby.

The German duo – made up of Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch — were taking an advanced music class when they instantly hit it off. Now, put out folk music with touches of reggae and electronic. Though Milky Chance hasn’t won many awards in America, they’ve been racking them up in Europe. The group has also been featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where they performed their song, “Stolen Dance.”

Awolnation

AWOLNATION-photoEven if you don’t think you know this group, I’m assuring you that you’ve heard their stuff. The rock/electronic rock four-piece Awolnation is best recognized for their single “Sail” which dominated the radio station for what felt like an eternity. The song came out in 2011, but can still be heard on the right alternative station if you time it well.

Based out of Los Angeles, California, their latest album “Run” released in March of this year. It peaked at No. 17 on the US Charts and No. 3 on the US Alternative Charts.

Now’s your chance to catch them before their next single takes over for another four years.

*Fun fact: Awolnation guitarist Kenny Carkeet produced Friday performer, Zeale’s EP.
